神を信ぜよ (kami wo shinze yo): trust in God, believe in God.

Trust in God: at Mark 11:22 these are Jesus's own words to his disciples, the whole of the sentence he says before he goes on to the promise for whoever does not doubt, and that promise is the reader's to know. The Japanese is the sentence of Japan's first New Testament, to the character, and its verb is the older command form, 信ぜよ, of a verb whose everyday form today is 信じる. The English Bible's own words at the verse are have faith in God; trust in God and believe in God both say what the Japanese says, and the command is to the one who reads it.

The Japanese phrase "kami wo shinze yo" meaning "Trust in God, Believe in God" is composed of the words 神 (read kami) meaning "God" and 信ぜよ (read "shinze yo") a command form of the verb 信じる (read shinjiru) meaning "trust in, believe in". The changing of the verb ending from "shinjiru" to "shinze yo" changes the meaning from a passive "Trust in God" to the active "(We Should) Trust in God".

The scrolls are 12 1/4" W × 43" H (31 × 109 cm) with real silk borders and Japanese paper that are layered so the scroll hangs straight and will not warp over time. The scrolls themselves are made by Sankō (株式会社三幸) in Gifu prefecture, which has been making high quality scrolls since 1947, and we have worked with Sankō for over two decades.
