Terms of Service
Effective October 2026
These terms govern your use of takase.com and your purchase of designs and scrolls from this site.
What You Receive
When you purchase a name or word design, you receive a high-resolution PDF and a perpetual personal-use license to that design. What the personal license allows, and how to license a design for commercial use, is set out on the Licensing page.
When you purchase a scroll, you receive the scroll itself: original calligraphy hand-brushed by Eri Takase, mounted as a traditional Japanese hanging scroll. Returns are set out in our Refund Policy.
Copyright
Every design and scroll on this site is original calligraphy by Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase. All intellectual property rights remain with Takase Studios, LLC. A design purchase grants a license to use the design. It does not transfer ownership of the artwork. A scroll is yours to keep, hang or give, and the copyright in its calligraphy stays with Takase Studios, LLC.
Accuracy
Our name meanings are researched from 19 scholarly etymology sources across 11 languages. Our word and phrase pages link to the dictionary entry or the Philology history they rest on, where one exists, so you can check them yourself.
Site Use
You may browse and search this site freely. Automated scraping, bulk downloading, or systematic extraction of content is prohibited.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Washington State, USA.
