Description
Strength and Honor in Japanese is 力と名誉 which is read chikara to meiyo
力と名誉 (chikara to meiyo): strength and honor, two virtues set side by side as the English sets them.
力と名誉 is a pair, not a sentence: no verb, no command, only what a person carries. 力 here is strength of body and of spirit alike, and 名誉 is honor as a good name, the honor a person keeps. Whether you hang it where you train or give it to someone who has earned both is yours.
The pairing is older than the film that made it a salute: Strength and honour are her clothing, Proverbs 31:25 in the King James Bible, before Maximus in Gladiator (2000); in Japanese the two nouns stand together from 1898, first in translations of Western texts and by 1912 in Japanese writers' own sentences, though never as a fixed phrase.

About Our Scrolls
Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase brushes your scroll by hand when you order it. Each scroll bears her red seal, 英利, and her signature.
The scrolls are 12 1/4" W × 43" H (31 × 109 cm) with real silk borders and Japanese paper that are layered so the scroll hangs straight and will not warp over time. The scrolls themselves are made by Sankō (株式会社三幸) in Gifu prefecture, which has been making high quality scrolls since 1947, and we have worked with Sankō for over two decades.
Eri Takase was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and holds the rank of Shihan, the highest rank in Japanese calligraphy, from the Bokuteki-kai and the Bunka-shodo. About Master Takase
