希望は最大の宝 (kibō wa saidai no takara): hope is the greatest treasure. A maxim in the plainest Japanese form, subject, は, predicate: 希望 kibō, hope, first the wish and then, from 1875, the bright outlook; 最大 saidai, greatest; 宝 takara, treasure, whose oldest citation is the Man'yōshū question of what treasure surpasses a child. No Japanese book to 1946 prints the maxim; it is the house's own line, with the English our dropped because Japanese needs no possessor, and the は is what makes it a proverb rather than a phrase.

The scrolls themselves are made by Sankō (株式会社三幸) in Gifu prefecture, which has been making high quality scrolls since 1947, and we have worked with Sankō for over two decades.
