Spirit Over Technique in Japanese is 技術より心術 which is read gijutsu yori shinjutsu
技術より心術 (gijutsu yori shinjutsu): the mind's bearing over the technique.
技術より心術 says that what the mind brings counts for more than what the hands know. The readings agree that the mind comes first, and part on what 心術 is: a person's bearing, or an art of the mind beside the art of the hands. The two words share 術 and differ in one character, 技 against 心, and the precept sets one above the other. Whether you hang it over a training floor or a desk is yours.
The precept is the fifth of the twenty precepts of karate, a list in print by December 1934, which Nakasone Genwa 仲宗根源和, printing it with his commentary in 空手道大観 (1938), says Funakoshi Gichin 船越義珍 established.

About Our Scrolls
Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase brushes your scroll by hand when you order it. Each scroll bears her red seal, 英利, and her signature.
The scrolls are 12 1/4" W × 43" H (31 × 109 cm), with woven damask borders and layered Japanese paper, designed to last generations. The scrolls themselves are made by a scroll maker in Gifu, Japan, and we have worked with them for over two decades.
Eri Takase was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and holds the rank of Shihan, the highest rank in Japanese calligraphy, from the Bokuteki-kai and the Bunka-shodo. About Master Takase
