Description
Jundo Seisho in Japanese is 順道制勝 which is read jundou seishou
The Japanese phrase jundou seishou (commonly written in English as "Jundo Seisho") is a Judo term composed of the kanji 順 (read jun) meaning "right, order", 道 (read dou) meaning "path, teaching, way" and the word 制勝 (read seishou) meaning "victory".
This is a difficult phrase to translate and there are many different perspectives. Kodokan Judo Institute suggests the translation Accordance with the Way Overcomes Winning. In an article in Black Belt Magazine (Jan 1998), Kevin Hefner suggests, He who does the right thing is the victor. In his book, The Way of Judo: A Portrait of Jigoro Kano and His StudentsJundo Seisho (順道制勝). "Following the Way Produces Victory." Jundo is a Confucian concept meaning "proper behavior," "maintain high principles," and "to follow the natural course of things." In Judo, seisho means "obtain victory" and "emerge victorious." In education, seisho means "achieve the goal" and "realize great results."
