Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase

Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, Eri Takase received the rank of Shihan, master, from two calligraphy societies, the Bokuteki-kai and Bunka-shodō, and won best-of-category awards in all-Japan national competitions. She has created calligraphy for people around the world for more than thirty years, and with your order she will be creating calligraphy for you.

In a ritual as old as calligraphy itself, Master Takase prepares the ink, meditatively rubbing the ink stick against the stone until it reaches the perfect consistency for the paper. Then, properly loading the brush with ink, she brushes your scroll. And only when the scroll is just right and meets her approval, she signs it and affixes her seal, completing your original scroll.

Explanation

家庭円満 is the wish that the people in one home get along. By 1903 it was a compliment paid to a family, and today people ask a shrine for it as a blessing. 家庭 is the home, in the big dictionary's words the smallest group of kin, centered on husband and wife and parents and children. 円満 is round and full, and in the dictionary's last sense, of people, getting along without corners.

家庭円満 is composed of the word 家庭 (read katei) meaning "home; family; household" and 円満 (read enman) meaning "harmony; perfection; peace; completeness".

家庭円満 is a Meiji word for a harmonious home, in print by 1899 in a Tokyo women's magazine.
