Respect

(rei)

The Japanese word rei also translates as "thanking; gratitude" and is a single kanji (read rei) meaning "respect". Respect (rei) is used in everyday Japanese though a better word for everyday use is Respect (sonkei). Respect (rei) is more properly a Martial Arts term that is an important component of Bushido (bushidou), the Samurai Code of Chivalry, and is one of the Seven Virtues of Bushido.
