About the Designs

More about 人生良好

人生 (jinsei) is a person's life in this world and the span of it, the word for a life taken whole; 良好 (ryōkō) is good in the sense of in good condition, going well. Set together they say the English sentence plainly, life: good, and the plainness is the point: it is Master Takase's rendering of Life is Good, made to say what the English says without ornament, and a Japanese reader takes it at a glance as a report that all is well.

It is a sentence for a wall in a house where things are going right, or a gift to someone for whom they have started to.

人生良好 is composed of the words 人生 (read jinsei) meaning "life" and 良好 (read ryōkō) meaning "good; favorable".
