Description
長寿と繁栄を (chōju to han'ei wo): live long and prosper.
A wish, in the form Japanese gives a wish: long life and prosperity, with the verb of wishing left unsaid, which is how Japanese blesses and why the phrase ends on を. It is the Japanese the encyclopedia gives for the Vulcan blessing, and the wish was Japanese before it was Vulcan, so a person who hangs it for the salute or for the plain wish under it gets a real blessing either way, and which they mean is theirs.
It is the scroll for a birthday or a new venture, and for the friend who knows the salute.
The salute and its words first appeared in the Star Trek episode Amok Time in 1967, and 長寿と繁栄を is the Japanese encyclopedia's rendering of the greeting. The pairing was a Japanese wish before it was a Vulcan one: a 1915 guide to natural cures promised its readers health, long life and prosperity in these two nouns, which is why the rendering fits; it was already Japanese.

About Our Scrolls
Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase brushes your scroll by hand when you order it. Each scroll bears her red seal, 英利, and her signature.
The scrolls are 12 1/4" W × 43" H (31 × 109 cm) with real silk borders and Japanese paper that are layered so the scroll hangs straight and will not warp over time. The scrolls themselves are made by Sankō (株式会社三幸) in Gifu prefecture, which has been making high quality scrolls since 1947, and we have worked with Sankō for over two decades.
Eri Takase was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and holds the rank of Shihan, the highest rank in Japanese calligraphy, from the Bokuteki-kai and the Bunka-shodo. About Master Takase
