I Control My Destiny in Japanese is 運命を制す which is read unmei wo seisu
運命を制す (unmei wo seisu): to command fate. 制す is command, in the classical ending that turns three words into a maxim. From 1899 three Japanese collections of maxims, for preachers, soldiers and the young, print the sentence 豪傑は能く運命を制す, the hero can master fate, and set Napoleon's name beneath it, between Mencius and Tacitus. The design keeps the last three words and lets the hero go, so the one who hangs it supplies the subject. The English adds the subject the maxim's tradition invites: I control my destiny.

Eri Takase was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and holds the rank of Shihan, the highest rank in Japanese calligraphy, from the Bokuteki-kai and the Bunka-shodo. About Master Takase

The scrolls themselves are made by Sankō (株式会社三幸) in Gifu prefecture, which has been making high quality scrolls since 1947, and we have worked with Sankō for over two decades.
