戦姫 senki warrior princess

王女戦士 is read the way 企業戦士, the corporate warrior, is read: the second word is the head. 戦士 is a soldier on the field and, today, anyone who fights on the front line for a cause. A Japanese reader takes it that way on sight.

王女戦士 is a combination of the words 王女 Princess (ōjo) and 戦士 Warrior (senshi).

The compound renders the English warrior princess, a title in 1873 and the subtitle of a 1995 television series: two old Japanese words, 王女, a king's daughter, and 戦士, a fighting man, set the other way round from the English, so that 戦士 is the head and she is a warrior who is a princess; it first appears in Japanese print in 1988, in a translated American novel, and remains rare, in no dictionary.
