国際和道流 kokusai wadōryū International Wadoryu
More about 国際和道流
国際 kokusai is international, a word Japanese sets before a noun, as in 国際空港, an international airport. 和道流 wadōryū is the name of Ōtsuka Hironori's school: 和道 wadō, its first part, is the way of harmony, and 流 ryū is a school; the sources give four dates for the name, from 1929 to 1939. So 国際和道流 reads International Wadō-ryū, and the Japanese order and the English agree word for word. The Wado International Karate-Do Federation, founded by Ōtsuka's pupil Suzuki Tatsuo in 1990 or 1991, says in English that he decided to start his own International Wado-Ryu organization, and gives its Japanese name in romaji, Wado Kokusai Karate-Do Renmei, with the school first.
