I Suffered, I Learned, I Changed

苦しんだ学んだ変わった (kurushinda mananda kawatta)

苦しんだ学んだ変わった (kurushinda mananda kawatta): I suffered, I learned, I changed. 苦しんだ kurushinda is suffered; 学んだ mananda is learned; 変わった kawatta is changed; three verbs in the plain past with no particles and no pronoun, since Japanese leaves the I to the speaker, and the sequence is the sense: hardship, then the lesson, then the person who came out of it. It is the same three-verb shape Japanese gives Caesar's veni, vidi, vici, 来た見た勝った. The English circulates as a motto with no author anyone has fixed; the Japanese is the house's, and it is as terse as the English and a little more so.
