The Japanese word 狩人 meaning "Hunter" is composed of the kanji狩 (read kari) meaning "hunt, hunting" and 人 (read udo) meaning "person". Note that the kanji for "person" is common, but this reading is rare. Commonly 人 in a similar situation would be read as either hito or bito. Exceptions like this happen often making Japanese a difficult language to learn how to read.
