人情 (ninjou)

The Japanese word 人情 is very important though it is a little difficult to translate. One might say it is the sum of positive human emotions such as "sympathy, empathy, and kindness" and represents what one feels as the right thing to do - the good thing to do. It is commonly contrasted with Duty (giri) which is what one is duty bound to do usually in repayment for what one has received from another. For more information see the Wikipedia article article Ninjo.
