永遠に心の中に eien ni kokoro no naka ni Forever in My Heart

Forever, in the heart: the verb is left off, as it is in an English memorial notice. The sentence does not say whose heart, so it can hold one person's memory or a whole family's. Its twin, Forever in My Heart (eien ni watashi no kokoro ni), spells out my, and both forms are common in print. The earliest page with this one in the National Diet Library's full text is a report of 1927 in which a Sado Island teacher hopes a class motto will lodge forever in the pupils' hearts.
