信仰 shinkō Faith

信仰 is faith in the religious sense: belief in a god, a teaching or a creed. It can also be used as a verb, meaning to hold such a faith. For faith as a firm personal conviction, Japanese uses 信念 (shinnen).

The Japanese word 信仰 meaning "Faith" is composed of the kanji 信 (read shin) meaning "faith, trust, believe" and 仰 (read kō) meaning "to depend, respect, seek".
