初心 (shoshin)
The Japanese word 初心 meaning "Beginner's Mind" is composed of the kanji 初 (read sho) meaning "first time; beginning" and 心 (read shin) meaning "heart; mind; spirit". 初心 refers to a spirit of eager learning without preconceptions. This is the way to approach the study of anything new and, more importantly, the study of what one is already familiar with. One might think of 初心 as a constant reminder to see the world through the curiosity and wonder of the eyes of a child. For more information see the Wikipedia article Shoshin.
