Faith, hope and love: the three that last, in the order every Bible keeps, and the verse goes on to say which of them is the greatest, so the words carry the three and a person who chooses them knows the answer. The words are the Japan Bible Society's colloquial Bible's, character for character, and the older classical Bible had the same three words in the same order, so this is a verse that sounds the same to a Japanese Christian and to their grandparents; a reader who owns either Bible will find it there. The English title is the New International Version's; the King James calls the third charity, and 愛 is both. Which of the three is yours to hold most is yours.
