知者は惑わず (chisha wa madowazu): one who understands how things are does not waver.
One who understands how things are is not at a loss: the wise do not waver when the moment comes to act. It is Confucius, one of three clauses said in a breath, the wise are not perplexed, the humane are not anxious, the brave are not afraid, each virtue named by the one thing it frees a person from; the Japanese have quoted the clauses one or two at a time for centuries, as a scroll of one clause does, and the other two are offered on their own. The English title's delusions is the Buddhist sense of 惑; Confucius wrote the everyday word, to waver, to be at a loss, and the scroll says that. Which of the three you hang, and for whom, is yours.

About Our Scrolls
Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase brushes your scroll by hand when you order it. Each scroll bears her red seal, 英利, and her signature.
The scrolls are 12 1/4" W × 43" H (31 × 109 cm) with woven damask borders and Japanese paper that are layered so the scroll hangs straight and will not warp over time. The scrolls themselves are made by a scroll maker in Gifu, Japan, and we have worked with them for over two decades.
Eri Takase was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, and holds the rank of Shihan, the highest rank in Japanese calligraphy, from the Bokuteki-kai and the Bunka-shodo. About Master Takase
