雨にも負けず風にも負けず describes a person whom rain and wind cannot stop. He is out in both because he is on his way to someone who needs him. The two lines open a poem that is one long sentence. Its verb comes only at the end: such a person is what I want to become. So the lines are a wish, not an order to endure. Whether you hang it as the poet's wish or as your own is yours.

宮沢賢治 wrote the poem in a black notebook, dated in his own hand to 3 November 1931, two years before his death; it was not published in his lifetime.

The scrolls are 12 1/4" W × 43" H (31 × 109 cm) with real silk borders and Japanese paper that are layered so the scroll hangs straight and will not warp over time.
