陰陽 in'yō Yin and Yang

陰陽 is yin and yang, the two forces of old Chinese thought. They oppose and need each other, and together they make all things. The sun, spring, south and male are yang; the moon, autumn, north and female are yin. Read onmyō, it also names an art of divination built on them. Its diviner is 陰陽師 (onmyōji).

The Japanese word 陰陽 meaning "Yin and Yang" is composed of the kanji 陰 (read in) meaning "yin; negative; dark; secret; shadow" and 陽 (read yō) meaning "yang; sunshine; positive; heaven".
