戦士 (senshi)

The Japanese word 戦士 meaning "warrior; soldier; fighter" and is composed of the kanji 戦 (read sen) meaning "war; fight" and 士 (read shi) meaning "person". 戦士 does not have a specific connection to Bushido as, for example, 武者 Warrior (musha) does. So when the word "fighter" is used in the news 戦士 is the more common translation.
