双子 futago Twins

双子 is twins, or one of a pair of twins. It is also written 二子 or ふた子. The constellation Gemini, the Twins, is 双子座 (futagoza).

The Japanese word 双子 meaning "Twins" is composed of the kanji 双 (read futa) meaning "pair" and 子 (read ko) meaning "children". Together they are read futago, because the sounds change where the characters meet: 子 ko becomes go after 双.
