Total Enlightenment

解脱 (gedatsu)

The Japanese word 解脱 meaning "Total Enlightenment" (that is "being liberated from earthly desires and the woes of humankind") is composed of the kanji (read ge) meaning "absolve; understanding; solve" and (read datsu) meaning "escape; get rid of". Other translations include "deliverance (as in being delivered from earthly bonds)" and "spiritual awakening".
