仁者は憂えず jinsha wa ureezu The Benevolent Have No Worries

仁者は憂えず names the humane person by what humaneness takes away: worry. 仁 is humaneness, often called benevolence in English. The Analects puts it beside two more: the wise are not perplexed, the humane are not anxious, the brave are not afraid. Each is named by what it frees a person from. The line gives no reason. The Japanese dictionaries add one: the humane are at peace with what Heaven decrees.
