道徳経 dōtokukyō Tao Te Ching

道徳経 is the Tao Te Ching, the old Chinese book said to be by Laozi. It is also written Daodejing. Its full Japanese name is 老子道徳経 (rōshi dōtokukyō), and it is often just called 老子 (rōshi).

The Japanese word 道徳経 meaning "Tao Te Ching" is composed of the kanji 道 (read dō) meaning "way; road; teachings", 徳 (read toku) meaning "virtue; goodness", and 経 (read kyō) meaning "sutra".
