超人 chōjin Superman

超人 is a person with powers far beyond those of most people, a superman or a superwoman. It is also the word for the Übermensch of Nietzsche, his ideal of what a human could be. The comic book hero Superman has his own name, スーパーマン (sūpāman).

The Japanese word 超人 meaning "Superman" is composed of the kanji 超 (read chō) meaning "transcend; super-; ultra-" and 人 (read jin) meaning "person".
