The Japanese word rei means "Soul, Spirit, Ghost (departed soul)". This is the same character used in Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit (seirei), in Ghost (yuurei) and in Reiki. By referring to the soul it can mean the soul itself as well departed souls and is used for words commonly translated as spiritual.
