Romans 12-12 Be Joyful in Hope

望みを抱いて喜び (nozomi wo idaite yorokobi)

望みを抱いて喜び (nozomi wo idaite yorokobi): holding hope, rejoice. It is the opening of Romans 12:12 as the Japan Bible Society's colloquial translation of 1955 has it, the first Japanese Bible in plain speech and the one a Japanese reader can read aloud from the wall. 抱いて, holding, is the verb that Bible supplies for in hope; the classical Bible of 1917 said it in two words, 望みて喜び. The English title is the New International Version's phrase for the same Greek.
