石の上にも三年 (ishi no ue ni mo sannen)
石の上にも三年 (ishi no ue ni mo sannen) is a Japanese proverb, literally "three years on a stone." Sit even on a cold stone for three years and it grows warm: perseverance through hardship wins out in the end. It joins 石 (ishi) "stone," 上 (ue) "upon," and 三年 (sannen) "three years."
