Not Knowing is Buddha

知らぬが仏 (shiranu ga hotoke)

知らぬが仏 (shiranu ga hotoke) is a Japanese proverb, "not knowing is Buddha," often given in English as "ignorance is bliss." The one who does not know stays as serene as a Buddha, untroubled by what others fret over. It joins 知らぬ (shiranu) "not knowing" and 仏 (hotoke) "Buddha."
