映画 eiga Movie

映画 is the word people use every day for a movie or a film. A cinema is 映画館 (eigakan), and a film fest is 映画祭 (eigasai).

The Japanese word 映画 meaning "Movie" is composed of the kanji 映 (read ei) meaning "reflect; reflection; projection" and 画 (read ga) meaning "brush-stroke; picture".
