The Japanese word 上帝 also means "the Creator", "the Supreme Being" and is composed of the kanji上 (read jō) meaning "above; up" and 帝 (read tei) meaning "god; sovereign; the emperor; creator".
The Japanese word shu meaning "Lord" is a single kanji word. Lord (shu) is used throughout the Bible as the translation for "Lord" though one must be careful because the same kanji has other readings and meanings including "nushi" meaning "lord; master".
