生死 is life and death, or life or death. In Buddhism it also names samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth. 生死一如 (seishi ichinyo) says that life and death are two faces of one coin.

The Japanese word 生死 meaning "Life and Death" is composed of the kanji 生 (read sei) meaning "life; birth" and 死 (read shi) meaning "death; die".
