空手 (karate)

There are two common ways to write "空手". This version literally translates to "Empty Hand" and is composed of the kanji (read kara) meaning "empty" and (read te) meaning "hand". "空手" can also be written 唐手 Karate - China Hand (karate) meaning "China Hand".
