神風 kamikaze Kamikaze

神風 is a divine wind: the typhoons thought to have saved Japan from Mongol invasion in the 13th century. English knows the word from the Second World War, for Japan's suicide pilots. Japanese calls those units 特攻隊 (tokkōtai).

The Japanese word 神風 meaning "Kamikaze" is composed of the kanji 神 (read kami) meaning "god" and 風 (read kaze) meaning "wind".
