The Japanese word 名誉 meaning "Honor" also translates as "Prestige, Credit" and is composed of the kanji名 (read mei) meaning "distinguished" and 誉 (read yo) meaning "honor". Honor (meiyo) is commonly used in everyday Japanese and it is also an important component of Bushido (bushidou), the Samurai Code of Chivalry and is one of the Seven Virtues of Bushido.
