名誉 is honor: a good name, glory, the respect a person has earned. Placed before a title it means honorary, as in 名誉教授 (meiyo kyōju), professor emeritus. To win back a lost good name is 名誉挽回 (meiyo bankai).
The Japanese word 名誉 meaning "Honor" is composed of the kanji名 (read mei) meaning "distinguished" and 誉 (read yo) meaning "honor".
