Holly

(hiiragi)

The Japanese plant hiiragi meaning "Chinese Holly; Holly; False Holly" looks very similar to the Western Holly though in fact it is a different plant. Even though technically incorrect, hiiragi is still used as a non-technical translation for Holly because it is so similar looking and because Japan does not have a native Holly plant. To see the similarity and to judge for yourself visit the Japanese Wikipedia article Hiiragi.
