偉大 idai Great

偉大 is great in the sense of grand and fine. It is said of a deed or a person. 偉大な業績 (idai na gyōseki) is a great feat, and 偉大な人物 (idai na jinbutsu) is a great man or woman.

The Japanese word 偉大 meaning "Great" is composed of the kanji 偉 (read i) meaning "admirable; greatness; remarkable" and 大 (read dai) meaning "large; big".
