The Japanese word tōshi is composed of the kanji闘 (read tō) meaning "fight" and 士 (read shi) meaning "gentleman; person". Fighter (tōshi) does not have a specific connection to the Samurai (samurai) and Way of the Warrior (bushidō) traditions as does Warrior (musha) for example. And note that tōshi, as is true with most Japanese words, is not gender specific and so may be used by both men and women.
Each design is Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase's hand-brushed calligraphy of the word or phrase on this page, delivered as a PDF you can print. Every PDF includes the line art, so a tattoo artist or a craftsperson can work from the outline as well as the brushed image.
