有名 yūmei Famous

有名 means famous or well known. It is a describing word, so on its own it says famous, not fame. A famous person is 有名人 (yūmeijin), a celebrity.

The Japanese word 有名 meaning "Famous" is composed of the kanji 有 (read yū) meaning "possess; have; exist" and 名 (read mei) meaning "name; noted; distinguished".
