大吉 daikichi Excellent Luck

大吉 is the best luck there is, the top fortune a shrine's fortune slip, the omikuji, can give. Its opposite is 大凶 (daikyō), the worst. A very lucky day is a 大吉日 (daikichinichi).

The Japanese word 大吉 meaning "Excellent Luck" is composed of the kanji 大 (read dai) meaning "great; large; huge" and 吉 (read kichi) meaning "luck; joy; congratulations".
