医者 isha Doctor

医者 is the everyday Japanese word for a medical doctor, a physician. It names a woman or a man alike. A doctor in the sense of a PhD is a different word, 博士 (hakushi).

The Japanese word 医者 meaning "Doctor" is composed of the kanji 医 (read i) meaning "doctor; medicine" and 者 (read sha) meaning "person".
