恐竜 kyōryū Dinosaur

恐竜 is a dinosaur, and the age of dinosaurs is 恐竜時代 (kyōryū jidai). Its two kanji, fear and dragon, say much what the Greek of dinosaur says: terrible lizard.

The Japanese word 恐竜 meaning "Dinosaur" is composed of the kanji 恐 (read kyō) meaning "fear; awe" and 竜 (read ryū) meaning "dragon".
