暗夜 an'ya Dark Night

暗夜 is a dark night, a night without light, and it is also written 闇夜. The word is in the title of Shiga Naoya's novel 暗夜行路 (an'ya kōro), A Dark Night's Passing.

The Japanese word 暗夜 meaning "Dark Night" is composed of the kanji 暗 (read an) meaning "dark; darkness" and 夜 (read ya) meaning "night; evening".
