Weep in the dojo, laugh on the battlefield.
道場で泣き戦場で笑う dōjō de naki senjō de warau Cry in the dojo - Laugh on the battlefield
More about 道場で泣き戦場で笑う
道場で泣き戦場で笑う is a martial-arts wording of a Japanese maxim of training: hard training now, for the sake of the real thing later. The maxim is a coach's precept in Japanese sport, and men who trained in the war recalled it in later years. The tears are the ones spent in training, and the laughter is kept for the day that counts. Where your battlefield lies is yours to say.
We want you to be as happy with the meaning as you are with Master Takase's art. To learn more, visit Philology of 道場で泣き戦場で笑う.
