必勝 hisshō Certain Victory

必勝 is certain victory, a win that is sure to come. A surefire way to win is 必勝法 (hisshōhō). The plain word for victory is 勝利 (shōri).

The Japanese word 必勝 meaning "Certain Victory" is composed of the kanji 必 (read hitsu) meaning "certain; must" and 勝 (read shō) meaning "win; victory". Together they are read hisshō, because the sounds change where the characters meet: 必 hitsu shortens to a doubled s before 勝.
